Clothes Shopping

Saturday after going to Wye Mountain we went shopping and Jackson discovered the fun house mirror in the boys dressing room in the new JC Penneys in west Little Rock.

Josie Photo Shoot

I was coming to say prayers with Josie and the light coming out of the bathroom was just right. She was in the right mood to have photos taken and I used the only camera I had ready at the moment my cell phone camera.

Snow

I don't think it is fair for it to snow during Spring Break. I am home today with the kids and we got about 1.5 inches of snow last night. Jalen, Jackson, Josie and Jamie went out and played for a bit while while I made breakfast. I made grits and hot chocolate to warm them up. Instead of using the hot chocolate mix from the store I made the recipe off the side of the Hersheys Coco Box. I remember my dad would make hot chocolate that way sometimes. Made with coco, sugar, milk and real vanilla is just a ton better than a powdered mix from Carnation. Dad would also collect fresh snow and mix in sugar and vanilla and make snow cream. I need to find out the recipe for that. We need a lot more snow to make snow cream. After breakfast, we went out and made a small snowman in the back yard. You would think that as a photographer I would have cameras with me. All of my cameras were at the office except my 1950s Kodak Signet 35 that is loaded with B&W film and of course my trusty cell phone camera.

Life with Josie

You never know what Josie is up to. She ran into the house Saturday morning and said "DAD, where is my purse?" I told her I didn't know and she said "Dad, I need my purse." I asked why do you need your purse to play outside? Josie said," DAD that is where I keep my gun and the boys are playing guns." I saw here purse on the floor by the couch and I made her come get her photo made before she could go play guns with the boys. We got these guns at a crafts fair in Searcy this fall. They were $1 each and the kids have had so much fun with them. So beware of Josie if she had her purse with her.

No Training Wheels

Today I only worked the morning because the kids were out of school for Presidents Day. This afternoon Josie came to me and said "Dad, I want you to take the training wheels off my bike." We checked to see if her feet could reach the ground and they did so she was in business. The first trip down the cove she went over 30 feet with no support. In about 30 minutes she was riding her bike very well. She still can't start by herself and the turns are still a little tricky but it appears Josie is a bike riding machine.

Super Tuesday

Last Tuesday the Country divided democrats and republicans and voted and then watched CNN or Fox respectively as election returns came in from the Presidential Primaries in 17 states. Well in the Montgomery family we celebrated Super Tuesday for a much more important reason than who is going to run our country for four years. We were celebrating Jamie's 10th birthday. I can't believe Lucy is 10. I call Jamie-Lucy. I don't know why that name stuck with me for her. I am the only one who calls her that. Anyway, I got to eat lunch with her and she wanted Taco Bell. I left the office and arrived at Taco Bell to find it closed for remodeling. I got Snack Wraps @ McDonald's and made it to school for lunch. When we sat down at the table the entire lunch room sang Happy Birthday to her which was slightly mbarrassing to Jamie. After lunch we headed out to the playground and played 4 square for the entire time. We ate supper at Pizza Pro and she opened her presents and we ate cake. It was a Super Tuesday and when I got home late Tuesday night I joined the rest of the country watching Fox to check on the election returns.

Fog

It was really foggy this morning. I stopped on the way to the office to take this photo of this leafless tree and the sun in the background. I also took a few photos of the Health Sciences Building construction.

Photography Class Assignment

In the fall I get to teach a general photography class at Harding and I love teaching. I gave my students an assignment to photograph this tree that is on campus. The idea was to capture the fall colors. I decided to do this assignment as well but with my cell phone. I struggle to get good color photos with my cell phone. I always am shooting my phone in b&w because the photos look better and I just like b&w anyway. I miss the days of shooting film only because I love b&w film and working in the darkroom. I would give myself 23 out of 25 on this photo so not too bad.

Phone Photos

When you see Josie in her little bed all sweet and asleep with her Bible that she has been reading before she drifted peacefully off into dreamland you can almost make out the halo that must be above her little soft brown locks. Don't let that sweet look fool you. My iTunes is currently playing a Elvis tune from 1963 that is closer to the truth- (You're The) Devil In Disguise.

Lucy. I don't get many photos of Lucy and I kind of liked this one. You may be wondering who Lucy is and thinking this looks remarkable like Jamie. It is Jamie I just call her Lucy because sometimes it is nice to have a kids name that doesn't start with J and for whatever reason Lucy just works for me for Jamie.

This is not the greatest picture of Jalen but it really captures him. Jalen does everything at 110% and that even includes eating grits at Cracker Barrel in Arkadelphia, AR after HU beat Henderson in football a couple of weeks ago.

I never know what Josie will be up to when I get home from work. Thursday when I drove up the boys were playing basketball and Josie wearing a pink tutu and dark blue tights and pink tennis shoes was sitting in the middle of her hula hoop meditating. Where do 4 yr olds learn to meditate?

Old Camera and Film

This is Craig Rainbolt, my student worker and student. Craig is taking an independent study with me on landscape photography. He is working with a 4X5 View Camera and is focusing under that dark cloth. Craig is shooting and developing his film and he is also working on the Zone System only as it applies to metering. We are not going as far as plus and minus development.
