1-29-2014 Lindy McDaniel

Some days you get to shoot a retired MLB player. I only had about 10 minutes to listen to his stories but I would have loved to hear all of them.

Base/Softball is Fun

Last night was a beautiful night for baseball and softball. I took a few photos of Josie's game, that is her playing 1st base.
Josie on the rare occasion that she actually missed the ball on the first pitch. Here she is starting to swing on the second pitch which she whacks over to the second base-girl for a single.
Photo techniques work with my little camera just like with the big ones. Panning is always a good thing to try with base runners.
The boys watching Josie's team lose a tough game in the bottom of the last inning.
Finally, a little fun with my friend Zac Muncy. Zac and I are constantly harassing each other on FB. We call each other brother because people actually get us confused. How in the world a handsome dude like me could be confused with an ugly mug like Zac Muncy is beyond my ability to understand. So, I noticed this sign and decided that a little Photoshop magic and I could have a little fun at my friends expense.

Shooting Baseball with Jalen

This May I am loosing both of my student workers. I decided that I should start training future student workers a little younger. I have a couple of HS guys that have shot with me a little here and there. This week in 2nd grade Jalen was a Photographer as his career fair occupation. I decided that at the Bison baseball game today he should try his hand with a real camera and a long zoom lens. He did a decent job and after a little coaching he was filling the frame pretty well. I had fun and you never know there may be another Montgomery Photographer coming along.

Belles&Beaus-Track-Baseball

The best part of being a University Photographer is that you never know what you might shoot in a day. Today I started with a concert then moved on to a track meet which was followed by a baseball game. In the middle of those I saw my Dad and Step mom as they were visiting today. So far I have shot 1675 photos today and after I threw out the bad ones I kept just over 1000. Tonight when I shoot Spring Sing I very likely will shoot another 1600 photos. I have said it before and I am saying it now "I have the best job on campus."

Photos from Today

After my previous post, about high minded use of RF film cameras to brush up on my photography skills, I left the camera at my office yesterday.  So today I pulled out my original digital slr the Nikon D1X and  turned it to b&w and mounted my 35 F2 lens and got busy taking photos.

The card game of the weekend has been UNO.
We had friends over this afternoon and they got in on the action as well.
Jenna and Facebook on the phone.
Jenna also in the card game action.

Tonight we went to Jackson's baseball game.  This is Cade the catcher who by the way has a brother named Catcher.
Jalen is our kid with the most nicknames.  We call him Boo, Boo Dog, and many other things but when we are at Jackson ball game Jalen becomes Batman because be he is the batboy.
Coach Craig gets animated between innings.

The last at bat pep talk.

Baseball Champs

Jalen's baseball team won their division on Thursday night while I was in Auburn. Julie reported that Jalen was 5 for 5 batting and that in the 3rd inning he threw the first two batters out at 1st base and for the third out he caught a infield pop fly. That is why Coach Joe is running around the field carrying Jalen. The second place team received their medals and then Jalen's team( Harriman Athletics) received their huge trophy.

All Photos by Julie Montgomery As I am sure you noted Jalen is wearing a Red Cap while everyone else is wearing the team colors black hats. Well Jalen's hat was missing at game time so he substituted a red HA hat HA being for Harding Academy or on this night Harriman Athletics.

Jalen works on his self portrait technique at the ball park. Today is his birthday(5-4-2007) and the fun fact about Jalen is he weighed his birth date 5lbs and 4 oz.
