You never know what you will see as a photographer. I am convinced that photographers notice things that non-photographers don't see. As I was walking out of my building today to go eat lunch at the new COP PA Kettle, the food service location in the new Health Sciences building. COP PA Kettle is a very clever name for the place. The Health Sciences building houses the College Of Pharmacy and the Physician Assistants programs. Anyway, I spotted this grass hopper on the window up on the second floor. Why do grass hoppers climb 30 ft up the side of the building? Maybe he was admiring his image in the mirrored surface. After a couple of photos with my trusty Canon Powershot S5 and its awesome macro ability I started to leave and then I noticed another bug.
This poor fly gave his last full measure trying to go toward the light. Speaking of going toward the light, I did a research paper on Near Death Experiences when I was in English 103 in college. I did all my little papers on photography related themes: film, lenses, tripods, camera bags and such. I just couldn't come up with a research paper on photography so I fell back to my college major of Psychology. I read a bunch of stuff about it some people thought they were going to Heaven to see God and most of the scientist argued that it was a physiological reaction of your brain being deprived of oxygen and that causing strange sensations in the optic nerve. Who knows. I do believe that when we die we will go to see our maker and that we will be judged by how we have lived and whether or not we have lived for God. Who ever knew you could preach a sermon on a dead fly.

By the way, that building also houses the new Maters in Commicative Disorders Department right now.
Neat photos of the grasshopper and butterfly. One thing I'd like to add to your story about going to heaven - yes, good works and deeds are important, but without being washed in the blood of Jesus, they mean nothing. I know I'm probably one of those who pounded that good works stuff into your head when you were a little kid and not enough about God's love and mercy and grace. I'm sorry.
i read this blog the other day.. then when i was walking down a sidewalk by the river with my fiancee i noticed a milipede on the ground, elaine was amazed that saw it and i was reminded of this post. and laughed.
