Elliott Erwitt Books

I just got a couple of Elliott Erwitt books in through Library Loan. Personal Best is an excellent book that completely captures Elliott Erwitt and his unique vision and sense of humor. The second book is Unseen and it is not that great in my opinion. There are some great photos in there but the book as a whole is not up to the standards that I am used to from this great photographer. I hope someday to have 1/10th of the talent of Elliott Erwitt. I confess I read that quote from another photographer like myself who was wishing he was 1/10th as good as Joe McNally. This got me thinking about what fractions of other photographers I would like to inherit so here is my listing.

1. Me 30%- I like who I am and I like the photos that I take but there is a great amount of room for improvement.

2. Joe McNally 15%- I need way more practice with lighting and Joe is a master. I love his book The Moment it Clicks because it gives so much insight into the way he plans images.

3. Jay Maisel 10%- I love to see his photos and hear him talk about the colors and gestures.

4. Rodney Smith 5%- He is completely masterful with B&W and he is so good he only shoots what he wants to shoot.

5. Ansel Adams 5%- I would love to have his technical mind for the Zone System and his eye for landscapes.

6. Elliott Erwitt 10%-I wish my eyes saw things as cleverly as he does.

7.Eugene Smith 10%-I love his ability to put together photo essays.

8.Henri Cartier Bresson 5%- I need a little better decisive moment reflexes.

9. David Hobby 5%- I could be a better blogger like the Strobist.
