Football

Today, the Hogs played while I was working in Little Rock. They got smoked by the Crimson Tide.

Tonight I shot the first half of the Bison game. HU was hosting Delta State. We were getting smoked ourselves in the first quarter but scored twice late in the second quarter to go into the half down 35-21. I left to send photos to the newspaper and I did not return because both of my student workers were there and I had the game off because I thought the BBQ today was in the evening. As I downloaded the photos of the game I watched the second half of the LSU-Auburn game. Well, I just checked the HU athletics web page and we lost 56-49 in OT. A few random details about this game. Friday as i walked through the Student Center after photographing a Graduate School Fair, the FB team was set up selling t-shirts for the game. They say Harding vs Delta State on the front and Harding Gameday Blackout on the back. Coach Yates encouraged me to buy a shirt so I asked how much. $10 was the answer, I countered offered $5 and I walked away with a shirt. i would have payed $10 if it had not been game specific. Since I had my HU shirt for the game I assigned Craig Rainbolt, one of my student photographers, to shooting the game from the visitors side. I usually shoot from the visitor side because you can get action shots with the home crowd as a background. This year since I have two super talented student photographers I have been assigning shooting locations. One person on each sideline and one person in the end zones. This week Noah mounted a remote camera that had a radio trigger to the video camera lift. I am excited to see those photos. When I left at the half I gave him the 12-24 mm lens so he could get a wider view. I love the way Noah experiments with things like remote cameras. If is fun to watch Noah as he grows as a photographer. I think I need to get some of those camera remotes myself. I got this photo of Coach Huckeba tonight. The light was getting bad and it was just too noisy in color so I changed to B&W and it is a little better. This photo was before we started our comeback in the second quarter. I learned this week after going through Elliott Erwitts Personal Best again before i sent the book back to its Library Loan home, that it is ok to have sometimes soft and grainy photos if that is what is happening.

One funny sideline story. The Line Judge was not making some calls that our coaches thought he should. I was standing just behind the line of scrimmage and one of the Delta State players flinched and Coach Beason yelled out " He Moved!" The LJ was reaching for his flag and he turned around and glared at Coach Beason and said " give me a second to make a call." Coach Beason took a step back and started repeating the phrase " I can say that, I'm on the sidelind." Inferring that he was not telling the ref what to do he was just giving some play by play commentary from the sidelines.
