Tonight as I was watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, I was checking out the Olympics web page. I checked out the shooting events because I love shooting sports and I found the story of Károly Takács. Takacs was a Hungarian world class pistol shooter. At the age of 28 he lost his right arm in a grenade accident. He took up shooting with his left hand and won Gold Medals in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics.
Several years ago we went out to Colorado to shoot the wedding of one of my co-workers April. After the wedding we went to Colorado Springs to the US Olympic training center and the only athlete on the grounds that day was a shooter. I don't remember his name but he was shooting air rifles. We couldn't go to the building that he was in because there were terrible lightning storms and the Olympic Training Center is a huge complex with gigantic open areas. I watched him shoot on a video monitor for a couple of minutes. He was so exact he looked like a robot, the same precise movements every time.
When I was a freshman at Harding( Fall 1988) my first college class was a psychology class taught by Dr Robert McIlvain. He spent most of the time teaching us self relaxation. After that semester, he left Harding to be a team psychologist for the US Olympic teams. As a whole, I think I like the Winter Games the best. I really like Ice Skating.
Right now the boys are laughing themselves silly because the tv announcer just announced the delegation from Djibouti.
